First-year monthly leave: how long it can be used
Widely written as 'each day is usable for a year from the day it accrued', which is no longer the rule and produces expiry dates up to eleven months too late. All of the first-year days now run out at the same moment, so a day earned in month eleven has weeks of life, not a year — and that is precisely the day people plan to use later.

What we have recorded
- 2026-09-1912 months from hire
Leave accrued during the first year must be used by the end of that first year of employment — one shared deadline, not a rolling year per day. The earlier position, still repeated in older guidance, treated each accrued day as usable for a year from its own accrual date. Where the employee could not use the leave through the employer's fault, the ordinary lapse rule does not simply apply.
